Following the increasing accessibility of photographic gear in the early twentieth century, individuals could push for visually depicting more intimate moments through diverse perspectives. This imagery made primarily for personal purposes, rather than aesthetic ones, give a record of experiences in love, misfortune, construction, spirit, war, youth, friendship, and family. Taking account of the extensive digital images found on social media platforms today, the snapshot becomes the former result of that impulse or need to document and interpret everyday moments.

The following are a selections of photographs found throughout NC, which date back to the start of the 20th century. These images are notable for its peculiarities and the dialogue between them when grouped together. Questions of Whom, When, and Where are often unable to be answered due to the lack of specific information they carry. In turn these emerging photographs by unidentified photographers are being reassessed according to its imagery and our experiences, thus fitting new narratives.
