The Will to Power

As humans we rely on and are bounded by our knowledge and experiences to live. This is what we call “reality.” However, knowledge and experience are ambiguous therefore reality can become an illusion. It is possible to think that all human beings are living in their assumptions and that a reality doesn’t exist.  During my childhood I grew up hearing legends and stories from my grandma every night with the goal of teaching me a lesson about life. She directed my attention to the imaginary world from a young age. As I grow older I have nourished the imagination created by my grandma’s stories and have associated it to the idea that our reality could be considered an illusion. The results of this occurrence are works of art that explore my unfamiliarity and insecurity to new spaces and the coherence of my mind and body with the space. The first works on the series started with the documentations of unfamiliar spaces available through a Photography Artist in Residence, but it will eventually cover other spaces in Highlands, NC. For most of my works I submerge myself into the spaces and events, which conclude having a small narrative with different approaches. The work also studies the human physique by emphasizing on facial expressions and body language with a plot that brings the viewer in to take part in the events that are unfolding. Ultimately,  I hope the viewer is taken to an illusionary world where our assumptions from our experiences overtake the imagery in a attempt to match our own narrative or reality.
